Kenya's First Private Museum
Dedicated to the Maasai

The Enashipai Maa Museum is the first privately owned and licensed museum in Kenya. Devoted exclusively to the Maasai people's life and culture as seen through the eyes of the Maasai themselves, all exhibits are authentic pieces given to the museum by members of the Maasai people. It opened within the grounds of the Enashipai Resort & Spa in an old settler's cottage – kept intact for exactly this reason – with a traditional manyatta outside.

Visitors to Kenya often seek additional information about the country’s history and cultures, but apart from the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi, there is little else available to answer questions and satisfy people’s curiosity about the country’s past.

Established earlier this year, the Enashipai Maa Museum opened within the grounds of the Enashipai Resort & Spa, dedicated to the Maasai people, their customs, traditions, and history.

Visitors learn about the migration of the Maasai to Eastern Africa and their regional distribution across Kenya and Tanzania and how all their clans are thought to be traced back to but two individuals, their pastoralist lifestyle, their ceremonial dress and accessories’ worn by both men and women on special occasions, and the guided tour is then crowned by watching a documentary of the initiation ceremonies young boys undergo before they can become an adult before showing the preparations for a Maasai wedding.

Angelina Jolie’s Africa
to Highlight Elephant Conservation

Angelina Jolie is slated to direct an upcoming film, Africa, which will be focused around the efforts of conservationist Richard Leakey. The son of two famous anthropologists, Leakey has dedicated much of his life’s work to saving Kenya’s elephants from the ivory trade and also spearheading the creation of armed anti-poaching units. In Jolie’s words, the film is about “a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers, who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him.”

JKIA Introduces Brand New Terminal 1A
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport introduced a brand new Terminal 1A that reveals a vast interior constructed from glass, steel, and marble. There is a single point security check, which is a marked improvement over the multiple checks at the old facility. Kenya Airways was given the honor to fly the first flight out of the new Terminal, and the first passengers boarded the KQ's Dreamliner "The Great Rift Valley" through an air bridge connecting the them directly to the plane, rather than having to be bussed to the parked aircraft. In addition to these improvements, there will be many new features to follow, such as duty-free shopping, restaurants, and a state-of-the-art lounge.

Kenya Airways will operate up to four flights from the new terminal. Kenya Airways’ partner airlines and other carriers will progressively move to the new Terminal 1A, making way for the start of refurbishing the former Units 1 and 2, now named Terminal 1B and Terminal 1C.
